Moomba

Above: Moomba

"Let's get together and enjoy" is the translation of 'Moomba' from the Aboriginal. Owner Ritu (who bought and took over this pretty restaurant in January of this year) so likes the name she decided to keep it on. She also kept Rose, the lunch chef (15 years at Moomba), has just taken on Michal for the new dinner menu, has a lovely manager, Devon - and did a full refurb.

Ritu is such a great hostess that you will certainly re-visit Moomba on a regular basis - she seems to know all her customers and they clearly love her.

I indeed went twice in a week to Moomba: once with Lucille Grant, one of my freelance writers, for a working lunch; and the second with my very lucky boyfriend, to try the new evening menu. Both experiences were delightful - great food and great company. Putney is lucky.

The lunch menu is light and varied, portions just right, service super-friendly. For dinner we went large: tiger prawns in coconut tempura for me and seared foie gras for Tim. It was the real liver, not the paté, and just melted. Well, I have never head him wax so lyrical about anything, to the point that he feels he will never taste anything as good again as that foie gras. Shame!

Mains included delicious fish and fat chips for me (from the bar menu), just what I wanted, and beautiful quail for him. He is still raving about the foie gras weeks later.
