Reds
Above: Reds
Situated opposite New Wimbledon Theatre, Reds is both a bar and a grill, so you get the best of both worlds: it is perfect for a few drinks and a quick bite to eat before watching a play, or a cosy dinner with a few friends in the cushioned lounge area. In the summer, the garden at the rear is one of the best places to enjoy a glass of rosé with friends. Reds and Piaf are sister restaurants in Wimbledon and both are hot favourites of SW magazine: indeed, we recently attended a private party held at Piaf which was a great success: a champagne reception followed by 3-course dinner, all brilliantly presented and charmingly served. Both are worth bearing in mind for Christmas parties.
At Reds, the menu is made up of gourmet burgers, platters, grills and salads. Reds has just introduced a happy hour on selected wines and beers, a new pre-theatre supper and a lunch-time food and drinks platter, and has reintroduced Sunday lunch.
For starters my partner and I shared a platter featuring amongst many delicacies tomato brushetta, hummus, tzatziki, olives, falafel, vegetable and halloumi skewers and juicy hot chilli and garlic prawns. For mains I had the mozzarella and pesto chicken stack served with fresh vegetable caponata, while my partner had the grilled Aberdeen Angus steak. We ended with Belgian waffle and chocolate brownie - a few days on and I can't stop talking about those desserts.
