Strada is a very successful chain of Italian restaurants, many of which are located in the SW area. For the purposes of this review, we went to Strada in Putney where we were immediately impressed by the friendly hosts as well as the buzzing atmosphere. The soft lighting and simple interior are aesthetically pleasing and enhance greatly that all-important first impression.
My partner started with an antipasto of speck, Parma ham and Napoli salami with buffalo mozzarella, vine-ripened tomatoes and olives, served with chargrilled ciabatta, which she described as light and wonderful. I went for roasted Mediterranean butterflied king prawns cooked in garlic, white wine and chilli oil. Both choices were delicious. For mains, my partner opted for a fabulous southern Italian seafood stew of mussels, salmon, squid and tiger prawns, while I enjoyed pan-roasted fillet of beef with a creamy shallot and green peppercorn sauce, served with buttered green beans and garlic and thyme gratin potatoes. To cap this all off, we both had exquisite desserts: traditional Italian vanilla pannacotta pudding served with fresh raspberries, and iced nougat semi-freddo with a shot of espresso. We also enjoyed a robust Chianti chosen from the extensive wine list.
The staff were all very attentive and cheerful and could be seen chatting with a number of people who were very obviously regular locals, testifying to the popularity of the restaurant. Congratulations to Strada in Putney.
