The People’s Republic
Above: The People's Republic
A new menu and a new drinks list at The People’s Republic in Clapham – we heard the news, and Kate and I headed straight there to meet Jayke and talk about the changes.
Celebrating its first birthday this month, The People’s Republic has quickly become a regular haunt for those in search of a friendly, informal venue serving fabulous cocktails, some classic, some unique to The People’s Republic.
All the cocktails at The People’s Republic are made by professionally trained bartenders and it is a delight to watch them at work. We at SW have held numerous evening parties here and have also sampled the perfect Bloody Mary for Sunday brunch. Shots, spirits, wines and beers from all over the world are here in plenty and will be brought to you at your table whilst you settle into the cool and comfortable chairs and sofas.
We turned to the new food menu featuring value for money (starter and main for £12) good food. Starters include dips and warm Turkish bread, beef carpaccio and pan-seared calamari; and the brilliant idea of dishes to share (four dishes for £16) of, say, chipolatas, lamb kebabs, satay chicken and mini vegetable samosas.
Mains include herb-crusted salmon fillet, chargrilled steak, braised lamb shank and The People’s Burger with brie, avocado, fat chips and coleslaw. Simple and satisfying menu, great drinks – a good choice venue for Christmas parties.
